Moora Homes for the Aged ‘Riverside Units’

The Moora Homes for Aged Inc was incorporated in 1979 and was formed with the purpose of developing accommodation for aged and disabled members of our community that fall under the State Government’s social housing criteria.

The committee comprises community members who are passionate about maintaining a facility for members of our community meeting certain criteria as directed by the Department for Housing.

The committee has entered into a joint venture agreement with the Department for Housing and the complex comprises of 6 two-bedroom units and 12 one-bedroom units.

The Committee manages the complex under the terms and conditions of the Joint Venture Agreement. The following is a summary of the major items that need to be considered when receiving an application:

  • Does the applicant meet the aged criteria of 60 for a single woman, 65 for a single male with either applicant meeting the age criteria for a couple.
  • Does the applicant fall within the income levels set by the Department for Housing for social housing eligibility. Approximately $26,000 for a single and $39,000 a couple.
  • Does the applicant fall within the asset levels set by the Department for Housing. Approximately $330,000 for a single and $412,500 for a couple.
  • The applicant must not own property either directly or via a trust situation.
  • Once a unit is offered to a prospective tenant, they are required to provide a Centrelink Income Statement. This is used to determine the fortnightly rent payable.
